The North Carolina Crossing Gaurd Training Manual consists of two main parts. The first part includes the instructional materials used to train the trainers of school crossing guards. It provides information on implementing a school crossing guard program; the laws that govern school crossing guards; and administrative aids to assist the crossing guard trainer to be more effective. The second portion serves as a curriculum to train the local school crossing guards who will be on site at schools. Simple instructions guide the crossing guard trainers on how to use the manual and present the training material. Some of the main elements covered in this manual include; crossing procedures; characteristics of children in traffic; responsibilities of the crossing guard; emergency procedures; signalization and traffic signs; professional guidelines; and legal issues.
