Working Together to Advance Safe Routes to School

Have you ever been confused about who does what to advance Safe Routes to School?

Working Together to Advance Safe Routes to School describes the major national organizations and state agencies supporting and advancing Safe Routes to School — Federal Highway Administration, state Departments of Transportation, National Center for Safe Routes to School and Safe Routes to School National Partnership. These entities have distinct roles, yet all work collaboratively towards the same goal: to enable and encourage more American children to safely walk and bicycle to and from school.

The second page is a flow chart that further outlines the way these organizations collaborate. This is a living document and will be updated if roles evolve, or if any changes take place within the Safe Routes to School program.
